The Magical Illuminarium
In the days before cinema, travelling showmen would arrive in towns and villages, set up in a hall, and tell stories and while projecting images from glass slides through a Magic Lantern projector, often to large, excited and noisy audiences of children and adults alike. Some of these shows would be quite complex, using projectors with triple lenses, projecting onto floors and ceilings alike, with all kinds of visual and sound effects.
The Magical Illuminarium follows in the footsteps of this old tradition to introduce a new and visually exciting way of storytelling. Stories old and new are told while my illustrations are projected and music is played, all before your very eyes.....it’s a little like a live graphic novel or childrens book, a live musical soundtrack to a film while the story is narrated, with the narrative passing from the story to the music to the images.
